Cadogan Hall
Pro Corda Senior String Orchestra
From the 21st to the 30th August 2010 I worked at the Pro Corda International Chamber Music Academy based at Leiston Abbey conducting forty-four exceptionally talented 16–18 year old students. We started with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, but the main work for the week was Enesco’s Octet for Strings (for string orchestra). The theme for the week was French chamber music and Enesco, who studied with Massenet and Fauré in Paris, wrote his octet in Paris aged just 19. The concert was on the 30th August 2010 at Leiston Abbey and was a huge success.
Collaboration with Britten Pears Composer in Residence
During my time as Assistant Conductor to the Britten Pears Orchestra I had the chance to meet and work with Fang Man who is the composer in residence for the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme. She has recently been appointed as Composer-in-Residence/Assistant Professor of Music at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music. She is currently working on a piece called Tao for Solo Sheng and Solo Cello with orchestra. On Friday 6th August 2010 I conducted a workshop of this piece with the Britten Pears Orchestra.
Musical Director of Cantorian Rhos Choir
I am delighted to announce that I have been appointed as Musical Director to Cantorian Rhos Choir. They are a mixed choir of 50 ambitious choristers based in North Wales. I very much look forward to working with them in September and hope to continue the excellent work of Mervyn Cousins who is currently Executive Director of Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
Britten-Pears Assistant Conductor
I am delighted to announce that I have been selected as Assistant Conductor to Kirill Karabits for the Britten-Pears Orchestra in August 2010 as part of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme. The course runs from the 3rd — 8th August at Snape and the repertoire is Sibelius Karelia Overture, Sibelius Symphony No.1 and Strauss Tod und Verklärung. This position is generously supported by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
I was shortlisted by DVD auditon earlier in the year and then selected by Kirill Karabits to work closely with him in August. Kirill is currently Principal Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and has guest conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra, SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
